Hawaii Puna Post Office Issues
Post Office Facilities are dangerous and inadequate
In Puna the Post Office Facilities were built in the 1950s - 1960's.
The facilities are outdated and unable to accommodate modern day needs of our community today. The need for mail service of receiving and sending mail has outgrown the facilities.
It takes years to wait to get a Post Office mail box.
Communities do not want the installed rows of mail boxes in their subdivisions due to theft and vandalism (as stated by the Post Master at the Mountain View Post Office in an interview years back).
AND worst of all people have died trying to get their mail at the Mountain View Post Office. There have been three or four deaths due to the dangerous location of the Post office and its' inadequate parking.
Glenwood lacks a zipcode
The town of Glenwood has fallen through the zip code cracks.
Puna Hawaii Post Office Petitions
The community came together to sign a Petition (see images of that petition below) and send it to many Post Office officials, including the highest officials in the U.S. Post Office Post Master General. The Petitions were ignored and left in communication limbo.
The only other Post Office Rule to obtain a zip code or new post office facilities is for the County of Hawaii to request it.

U.S. Post Office has no oversight
Congress no longer funds the U.S. Post Office and has left it to self-manage without oversight. The problem is now that they do not have Federal funding, they have become a for profit enterprise corporation that seeks only to act for itself and not its' customers. to make a profit.
Therefore, customer service and integrity have gone out the window. It is bad when a petition of over 800 signatures goes unanswered.
The arrogance of the employees is another issue.
It is a slap in the face to by gone days when the Pony express men risks their lives to deliver the mail. They took pride in what they did. Their risks were essential to communication in our country, and how this was the start of our mailing system.
The Post Office is part of American history that we should all cherish. The right to call them selves the United States Post Office is a privilege, and they should act like it.
Since the Post Office has been defunded by Congress, the Post Office acts like it is its' own private corporation. If that is the case, then the words United States need to be removed from their name.
IF CONGRESS HAS NO CONTROL OVER THE POST OFFICE THEN WHO DOES ?
